Laminitis management

Appy  needs to be managed very carefully due to a history of laminitis and a metabolic disorder which can trigger it.

When she arrived we knew she would need very limited grazing on the  horse paddocks so we put her in a small triangle and side strip as a precaution.  Appy is ridden daily by Phoebe  our vet and farrier advised that she would benefit from losing some condition.  Our master farrier Nigel Brown has put pads and shoes on Appy and she is really feeling the benefit of them and enjoying hacking out and jumping in the school.  We are managing her diet on a daily basis to ensure we keep her weight stable.

Lurch has no history of laminitis but due to his age and other underline conditions he became foot sore this week Nigel our farrier came out immediately and confirmed he has laminitis we are now working with the vets bloods have been taken and he is on box rest.  We have made up a deep bed of shavings on our EVA mats which offer comfort and support .  The vet is due out tomorrow and we are in contact daily with his owner Victoria .

Specialising in retirement and rehabilitation we are  working with Abbey equine Clinic and Nigel Brown Farriers on a regular basis to ensure all of our horses welfare needs are met.
